Perfect day out of Marrakech. The argan cooperative stop was fascinating (goats in trees!), and Essaouira itself is magic — blue boats, seagulls, grilled sardines for lunch on the port. Our driver gave us the perfect amount of free time.
Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech
Overview
Two and a half hours from Marrakech, the fortified port of Essaouira feels like another country: whitewashed lanes, gulls wheeling over the fish market, and the famous blue boats bobbing in the harbor that inspired Orson Welles and Jimi Hendrix alike.
On the way you will stop at a women's argan oil cooperative (and, with luck, spot the tree-climbing goats). In Essaouira the day is yours: walk the Skala ramparts, browse thuya-wood workshops, lunch on grilled sardines by the port, or simply stroll the widest beach in Morocco before we glide back to Marrakech.
